Fuzz Factory (the Instrument)

The ZVEX Fuzz Factory is one of the greatest effects pedals of all time. It’s a supremely versatile fuzz beloved by players including Matt Bellamy of Muse, Nils Cline of Wilco, and uh, me, Ian Vargo. The Fuzz Factory also happens to be an angry fellow, capable of howling self-oscillation and feedback.
I had the idea to make a sampling instrument out of this screaming beast, and so I did. I connected my precious Fuzz Factory into a high quality CAPI preamp, and then tuned the knobs until I (approximately) reached the desired frequency, capturing several seconds of 73 notes ranging from a low F to piercingly high F. I then edited them precisely, named the files accordingly, and now they’re yours to enjoy.
